This site is about my personal journey into photography.

My purpose is to describe how I got here, explain some of the things I’ve learned, share my thoughts on the subject, and display some of my results as I continue to discover, study, practice, and (I hope) improve as a photographer. In doing so, I will be including some of the mistakes and failures, because mistakes are excellent teachers.

My hope is that others who have an interest in photography might find something helpful, encouraging, or enjoyable in browsing through here, and perhaps make this site one more step in their own journey of discovery.

In the galleries, you’ll see photographs I’ve taken over the years, of landscape scenes and nature, wildlife, architecture, people, and whatever else I found interesting to shoot. With each photo, you will be able to see the basic exposure values—shutter speed, aperture, and ISO—that were used. The photos in the galleries are the ones I think have some merit, or some value as an instructional example. You might disagree, and that’s OK. You’re welcome to send me a comment on any that you dislike, and also (of course) on any that you do like.

But this is more than just a photo gallery site; it’s also a blog, and I’ll be posting about many photography-related topics. In the blog, you’ll find my thoughts on technique, gear (cameras, lenses, and the accoutrements & equipment), jargon, technical aspects, and any other subjects I think are relevant. The menu includes options to display posts related to specific categories, and to search for specific terms. You’re also invited to comment on the blog posts, with anything from expressions of gratitude and praise (feel free to gush) to fussy corrections of spelling and grammar. (If a comment is abusive or ill-mannered, however, I won’t hesitate to delete it. This is my house, and I won’t tolerate boorish behavior.)

I’m not a professional photographer, and have no plans to make a living from the camera. I make no claim to great expertise in the field of photography; I’m a hobbyist who enjoys exploring, learning, and discovering more about the art, technique, and craft of making good photos.
